Who am I?

Hi! I am Cornelis van Zuilen, an astrophotographer from the Netherlands. I started my astrophotography journey in May 2021, and since then it has grown into a true passion and an important part of my life.

Despite the many cloudy nights we have here in the Netherlands, I always try to make the best of every clear opportunity. In 2024, I was able to capture over 125 hours of data, and in 2025 I captured more than 300 hours in total. Astrophotography has taught me patience, dedication, and attention to detail. Every image represents hours of planning, capturing, and processing. And I love every second of it. I am currently working on imaging the entire Messier Catalog, one of the most famous catalogs of deep-sky objects, and I hope to complete this project in 2026. It is an exciting long term challenge that continues to push me to improve my planning skills and processing techniques.

At the moment, I use two telescopes: a William Optics RedCat 51 MK2.5, paired with a ZWO ASI533MC Pro cooled deep-sky camera, and an Askar 103 APO, paired with a ZWO ASI2600MC Air. With these rigs I photograph a wide variety of celestial objects, including the Moon, the Sun, planets, nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, and even the occasional comet.

I created this website to share my images in higher resolution and to tell the stories behind them. Each photograph has its own journey. From the planning and capturing process to the final edited result. I hope that through my work I can share the beauty and wonders of the universe with others.

In addition to sharing my images, I also sell bookmarks featuring my astrophotography in the shop. It is a fun way to bring a small piece of the universe into everyday life.

NASA APOD Mention

It is a dream of mine to one day have one of my images selected for NASA’s APOD. They shared one of my images once, which made me incredibly happy and motivated me to keep improving as an astrophotographer
