The "Messier Catalogue" poster is a collage featuring every single object from the famous Messier Catalogue. All 110 galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters.
I can hardly believe it myself, but I have finally finished photographing the entire Messier catalogue, from my location in Heiloo, the Netherlands (52.6°N)! A year and a half ago I decided to finish the whole catalogue, capturing each object individually. Combined the images add up to a total exposure time of 352 hours and 13 minutes!
While working on this project, I always liked having a poster of the catalogue nearby while photographing each object, both for inspiration and to tick off objects as I completed them. The only poster available at the time though, did not feature any amateur images, which sometimes gave a bit of a distorted impression of what a backyard setup can actually capture. This poster is different. Every single image on it is one I photographed myself.
You will notice some of the images in the collage are larger than others. These are simply my personal favourites from the project, most of them with their own story behind how they came to be! I think that this makes the collage a bit more personal and unique.
After sharing earlier versions of this project on my Instagram page, featuring all galaxies of the catalogue, I received several requests from people asking if I would ever turn the collage into a poster they could hang in their hobby room, observatory, or use as inspiration for their own astrophotography journey. I truly appreciated those messages, and they motivated me to explore the possibilities of creating a high quality poster print.
I spent time researching different types of poster paper and tested multiple prototypes to find the right balance between print quality, colour accuracy, and affordability. After several revisions, this is the final result!
The images featured in the collage were captured over the course of the project using both of my telescopes, the Askar 103APO and William Optics Redcat 51 MK2.5, combined with a range of broadband and dualband filters and three cooled ZWO deep-sky cameras.
The poster is available in the following sizes:
40 × 60 cm (16 × 24 inches)
60 × 90 cm (24 × 35 inches)
Each print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate verifies that the print you receive is an original CVZ_Astro print, carefully crafted and inspected by myself to ensure a high quality standard.
I offer global delivery with parcel tracking, so you are always able to follow your order and be assured that it arrives in perfect condition.
