Messier 16 - The Eagle Nebula and the Pillars of Creation

from €39.00

Messier 16, also known as the Eagle Nebula, is a young star forming region in the constellation Serpens, at a distance of about 7,000 light-years from our Earth. At its heart lies the famous "Pillars of Creation", gigantic columns of cold gas and dust, each several light-years tall, which were made world famous by the Hubble Space Telescope. Inside these pillars new stars are being born, while the intense radiation of the young star cluster NGC 6611 slowly erodes the gas around them.

For this image I used the Hubble Palette (SHO). The light of ionised sulphur II (SII) is assigned to red, hydrogen alpha (Hα) to green and oxygen III (OIII) to blue. This is the same colour mapping that was used for the iconic Hubble images, and it reveals the structure of the gas clouds in beautiful golden and teal tones.

This photo was published in de Volkskrant on 30 September 2026 and was shown in the 19:30 news broadcast on RTL 4 on the same day.

To ensure the high quality prints perfectly match the digital image, I produced multiple prototypes using different types of photo paper and materials, and carefully refined the results. The final result is the best possible balance between detail, contrast and print quality.

Each print is produced in high quality on Fujifilm Glossy photo paper.
The image itself was captured using my Askar 103APO telescope and ZWO ASI2600MC Air camera together with two dualband filters, captured across two nights in August 2026, a combination that delivers incredible detail and amazing looking stars.

The print is available in the following sizes:

  • 30 × 45 cm (12 × 18 inches)

  • 50 × 75 cm (20 × 30 inches)

  • 70 × 105 cm (28 × 42 inches)

Each print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate verifies that the print you receive is an original CVZ_Astro print, carefully crafted and inspected by myself to ensure a high quality standard.

I offer global delivery with parcel tracking, so you are always able to follow your order and be assured that it arrives in perfect condition.
