Messier 45, also known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters, is one of the most well known open star clusters in the night sky. In Dutch, it has a rather poetic name “Het Zevengesternte”, which roughly translates to seven-star constellation. This open cluster is located in the constellation Taurus, at a distance of about 440 light-years from Earth. Recent studies confirmed that the Pleiades contains over 3,000 stellar members, making is 20 times larger than originally thought.
To ensure the postcards perfectly match the digital image, I produced multiple prototypes using different types of photo paper and materials, and carefully refined the results. The final result is the best possible balance between detail, contrast and print quality.
The image itself was captured using my William Optics Redcat 51 MK2.5 telescope and ZWO ASI294MC PRO cooled deep-sky camera, a combination that delivers incredible detail and amazing looking stars.
This postcard is part of the very first batch of official CVZ_Astro postcards and is available in the following size:
A6 10.5 × 14.8 cm (4.1 × 5.8 inches)
I offer global delivery an the postcards are shipped in sturdy packaging to ensure that they arrive at their destination undamaged.
